Photography Terms

The words below the picture can be very useful for anyone who likes to take pictures. Yes, some definitions do not speak for the film. Some people may think that the film is outdated. Even if it is not in the course of modern photography, there are always photographers are still in their medium of choice.

I R. Dodge Woodson is 30 years old experience as a professional photographer and I am the owner of the title = "The Master of the times"> The Masters of Photography ~ Distinctive Moments, New Brunswick, Maine. Being an old school guy, I'm not losing my film camera easily. In fact, not let go until three years ago. While I agree that digital photography is where the picture of the mass, remains a place for the use of film. For this reason, I have included some terms and definitions pure digital photographers who have no interest in.

The lack of optical aberration in which light rays are scattered and degraded a photographic image.

signs of abrasions in the film emulsion that look like stripes. They may result from dirt or dust in the film while working with either your camera or darkroom.

Acutance objective measurement of how a board is recorded in a photograph.

A device adapter ring that mounts on a target for additional installation accessories such as a support gelatin filter.

additive process where light of different colors are combined is an additive process. If a set of three primary colors are also grouped, the result will be white.

Aerial perspective one would think that relates to aerial photography, It does not work. The impression of depth is shown in a scene that is transmitted to the use fog.

Angle of view, a measure that has to do with the larger angle of light rays by a lens that forms a strong right image plane of the film. To determine this measure, a goal should target set at a level of infinity. In simple terms, the angle of vision is what you see when looking through the viewfinder. Or, in some cases, what the camera sees that. Not all cameras offer a what-you-see-is-what-you-get view.

A portion of the opening of a lens that opens and closes to allow the light to go to the movies. You can see the opening of business if you look at a destination that is not mounted in a housing and turn the aperture ring.

Priority When you open a meter reading of the camera is based on the opening configuration selected, the camera is in aperture priority mode. For example, if you want a diffuse background, you can adjust the iris open, for example, F-2.8, and the camera selects the appropriate shutter speed to produce a good exposure.

Support for a method that takes more than one image of the same scene with different exposures. Typically, the first image is taken at what is believed to be the ideal exposure. following exposures are taken at a stop over and faster time to leave to ensure a successful exhibition.

A focus adjustment on a device that allows the shutter stays open as long as the shutter button. With this function, timed exposures may occur.

Mass Motion Picture is purchase in a long roll and cut and loaded into containers or other containers for normal use. film bulk is cheaper than pre-packed film containers, but may be difficult load. If the film is exposed to light during the loading process, it will fog and ruin.

Burn in a term that means increase darkroom exposure in a part of a picture, exposing to light enlarger and the rest of the image is the shadow or hidden.

Flash dedicated electronic flash designed to work with a special camera. The flash is connected to the camera with a sensor which allows automatic flash exposure.

Depth of Field The distance that the object remains strong emphasis on the process of shooting. Open the configuration opening to reduce depth of field. Closing the openings to extend depth of field.

Diffuser A material that breaks and scatters incoming light.

DIN Deutsche Industrie Norm. This is a method of identifying the film speed and sensitivity.

Diopter It refers to the light bending power of a lens.

Dodging a term used in relation to work in the darkroom. It is when part of the photo paper is in the shadow of an exhibition of the enlarger. This allows non-shaded areas to be exposed longer, This gives other contrast vision.

Flash portable electronics, artificial light source to illuminate your subject. light output of an electronic flash is perceived as light by the film, so correction filters are not necessary for the use of films during the day.

Emulsion A light-sensitive material that are composed of halides suspended in gelatin. It is used in the production of two films and photographic papers.

Exhibition This word refers the amount of time the film or photographic paper exposed to light.

Opening-F adjustments observed in f-stops. A little f-stop number, such as F-2.8, an open diaphragm, and a large f-stop, like the F-16 is an opening to stop.

A film of the degree of the measured speed of light sensitivity of film. This often is described as ASA and ISO rating, each of them will be the same. A film with an ASA rating of 200 should have a rating of 200 ISO. Other model used for the classification of film speed rating is DIN.

Filters are devices placed on the lenses into two chambers and the expansion of the light and modify images. They can be used to correct or create special effects.

Flash light is scattered or reflected that have no image. You can reduce the layer of the lens and lens hood.

Flash guide number unit of measure you to determine the correct settings for the opening of the camera when the electronic flash is used as a source of light.

Distance The focal distance between the center of a lens and its focal point.

The focal plane when a lens forms a clear, crisp image.

the focal point of each side of a lens, where light filters in parallel to the axis of the lid.

Point focus where the light is coherent with a lens.

Gelatin filters are made of stained gelatin. They are cheap, but line easily.

A grain light-sensitive crystals that are normally made from silver bromide. The faster a film, the grain else has. For clearer images, low-speed film should be used to reduce the grain enlargements of photos.

A mist steam fog of smog or smoke in the air. Photographically speaking, the fog can be created by a bright light falling on a glass element lens.

distance hyperfocal The minimum distance that a goal can record a clear image and the target is fixed on a focal range of infinity.

Light incident light is falling on a subject, instead of light is reflected by an object.

In the incident Light Reading Light taken with a meter that indicates the amount of light illuminating an object.

An infinite point of the distance when the rays Light objects are parallel.

Internegative A negative result is the color of a special film to make copies or make copies copies of slides.

Luminance The amount of light emitted or reflected by a surface.

macro lens A lens that offers a high quality performance to take close-ups. Some manufacturers called microlensing.

A masking technique where a mask is used to block the light from one part of an emulsion. Masks can be used in the filter holder for special effects when taken a photo. Can also be used in a dark room, where the traces with an enlarger.

Scrim A screen placed in front of lights to cut production.

Speed Priority One form of an automatic camera. When a meter in the camera takes a reading based on the set shutter speed you have chosen, the camera is the priority mode speed. For example, if you want to stop the movement of a wheel, you must set a shutter speed of 1/250th of a second and the camera selects the aperture good fit to produce a good exposure.

In a single lens reflex camera of a camera that uses a mirror for photographers to see exactly which focuses on his film.
