Travel Bag Wheels
could someone explain the benifits of a backpack,over say a suitably sized sports bag with wheels?
I have seen backpackers with these enormous loads on their backs, at railway stations and bus stations, while I just leave my luggage at the left luggage office, and travelling ?? well I never have to walk far,as there is always a tuk tuk driver clamouring to help me with my bag.. Why a backpack, surely even empty they are heavy
There are probably more people with shoulder bags and suitcases than backpacks!
Most of the time you are going from airport to bus/taxi and then to hotel/hostel where you leave your bag in the hotel when you go out on the town! Even when you go on a tour out in the sticks you most often ride in vans and if you have a bag it is a small carry bag.
I use a shoulder bag and a big wheel bag. I used to use two shoulder bags. So far my “wheel” bag has endured around 5 years in and around Thailand, Philippines and other places. Yes, often I have to move to the street to pull the d**m thing! I prefer bags because it is easier to lock them up! I have a strap that I use off my shoulder to carry the wheel bag up stairs when necessary. The only time I use a backpack is when I am on a bike.
I guess if you intend to do a real “walkabout” or play “Stanley looking for Livingstone” it might come in handy! Most of all I think many people carry backpacks because they think it looks cool! If you intend to do real walking treks and actually need stuff from your pack it might come in handy.
