Seat Bottom Cover

What is generally the proper length for a suit jacket for a man who is 5′7?
I am just about 5′7; I find that by today’s standards of ultra-short suit jackets, many jackets are either too long or too short for me. However, I remember being told that when standing upright, if the tips of my fingers touched the end of the jacket it was the proper length, that anything longer than that was too long. Sometimes I see taller men wearing suit jackets that seem to fit this way, their fingertips just seem to touch the bottom of the jacket. So is the practice of wearing a jacket that is just barely long enough just a newer trend or is it really the proper style? I also realize that everyone has different body types so sometimes it’s a matter of personal preference. Is 3/4 of an inch/an inch a little too long worse looking than a jacket that barely covers the seat?
There are some of those standard and traditional rules that you mention. However the best answer is to use the stores tailor to get the best fit. They are usually all very good and up on the current, “rules”. The length of jackets, moves up and down a sort of sliding schedule, depending on the ratio of how long your torso is compared to the length of your legs.
Just go to any decent store and you’ll have a tailor who knows their stuff and can help you get a proper look and fit.
Best wishes to you
