Wearing the Right Clothes on the Golf Course for All Seasons
There have been plenty of styles of clothing worn on the golf course over the years, these days golf clothing has become a lot more casual but golf still remains one of the sports that whilst it doesn’t have a strict uniform policy it does have certain standards that most player stick to. This dress code can be enforced at “members only” golf clubs but they are mostly relaxed apart from certain footwear and denim jeans not being permitted on the course at most clubs
Despite these rules you’ll often see some professional golfers push the limits with their own eccentricity such as Ian Poulter who is well known for his bright and colourful golf clothing that he has designed and always draws comments when on TV. As well as looking good on the golf course you’ll want to have the clothing that is going to provide you with the greatest ease of movement as you don’t want the motion of your golf swing to be inhibited by your clothing and this can be the deciding factor on what you’re going to wear on the course.
In the warmer or summer months walking around the golf course in the sun can be draining so not only is it important you have a drink of water to hand but it’s also important to make sure you wear the right clothing. Shorts are optional as some golfers prefer to wear them in order to keep themselves cool during the game.
There are those though who will prefer to stick with their golf slacks or trousers, you’ll typically see professionals playing in trousers no matter what the weather but this can be a part of the rules for tournaments. A light polo shirt is preferred when playing golf in the summer as it is breathable as well as flexible enough to allow you to play golf without having to worry about your arms being limited.
In the winter or when there is a cold wind many golfers will opt for a fleece jacket or jumper over their summer golfing gear. In the rain some games will continue until they can’t play on and so a waterproof jacket and trousers can help you keep dry, many golfers keep their waterproof clothing inside their golf bags to ensure that they can quickly put them on if the weather sours.
Wearing a hat for golf is another important item of clothing as it can help keep the sun out of our eyes as well as keep our vision clear when the rain falls. Golfers tend to have either a baseball cap or a golf visor to cover their eyes so they can see down the range to their goal: the flag.
