they get equipment from whomever they are under contract with from a representative of the company. they have access to tour vans that have their specs on file to fix any problem that may occur. they also have access to prototypes and specialty clubs that the public may never see (the irons that ernie els and phil are playing now are prototypes). tiger has a contract with nike, so therefore, he plays nike equipment/shoes/balls/hats/etc. just because a certain player plays a certain brand of equipment, it does not mean it’s the “best” out there. the pros predominantly play the equipment of whover will pay them the most money to do so (taylormade, cleveland, nike, etc), which includes golf balls (ie Titleist pro v 1/pro v 1 x)
