The evolution of the golf shoe
Undoubtedly, other inventions have grown more impressive as golf shoes. Airplanes and automobiles, for example, or the modern computer. However, recognizing the golf shoe is an extinct species.
You can thank the Flint area and why. In 1923, the company has Patented William Park, 1917 version of the golf shoe, cut the top and go – the shoe of American golf was born. Not just any shoes, mind you, but the shoes FootJoy golf.
Name sound familiar?
In fact, the specific golf shoes dates back to at least 1857, when "The Golfer's Manual, published in Scotland, referred shoe "roughed with small nails or branches" allowing golfers "March comfortably and safely on the ground more slippery which can be activated by the midday sun in the heat. "
(The same year, the Burt and Packard Shoe Company was founded in Brockton, Massachusetts He later became, you guessed it, on the ground and Flint.)
In 1891, the leading removable metal was born, to the chagrin of managers everywhere. Not to mention the golfers who sometimes feel they prick their heavy soles. Talk about a Death March.
Forward to 1927, when the earth and Flint has been FootJoy appointed official of the shoe the first U.S. Ryder Cup team, skippered by the way Walter Hagen. However, the tips of Johnston & Murphy had the privilege elegant by the declaration of country clubbers taking crazy in the 20s.
In 1940, FootJoy introduced its first line of shoes for women. Unfortunately there little to distinguish them from those made for men. The decade also saw the emergence of FootJoy, Charles Eaton – later known as Etonic – the largest brands among golf professionals and amateurs.
It was not long in coming decades, golfers are content to wear shoes Oxford style and manufacturers have been happy to take one out. Finally, in 1970, R & D taken in time and in the plants developed rubber footwear – a qualitative leap in comfort and flexibility. Etonic pioneered treated waterproof leather, another major innovation in the 1980s.
The decade following the golf shoe ever closer to sport her cousins built for tennis, jogging and basketball. Light breathable fabrics and polymer materials replaced thicker, heavier and made shoes golf more comfortable and durable than ever.
As the 20th century turned, the metal tip met his demise in the shape of the plastic wedge – The commissioners of happiness everywhere. Companies that have long dominated the trade of sports shoes, including Nike and Adidas, applied their existing technologies for golf shoes and made a serious dent in the market share of the established manufacturers.
Increased competition has led to an explosion of innovation companies competed to make the shoes lighter, more comfortable and – no small – no more aesthetically varied. Today, consumers can choose styles ranging from classic chair of Oxford golf shoes that look like sports models, or even sandals.
And the golfers and not about men's shoes.
